This is from a note sent to my neighbors, about this project...
Many of you probably don’t know me by name, but I have a feeling that you know my dog, Winston. For the last several years, we’ve walked the streets of our neighborhood every morning. Many times we are greeted with a friendly wave, which we both enjoy.
Some of you know that I’m a photographer by trade. It occurred to me that it might be fun to create images of each family on our route, especially now with all of the upheaval in our society, as a way of getting to know each other a bit better.
To that end, I’d like to offer the opportunity for a free “mailbox portrait” of each family in our neighborhood. The idea would be to have us meet at the mailbox, where I’ll shoot a quick set of portraits. That way we can still do our “social distancing,” and yet create a cohesive set of images.
Each participating family will receive one free 8x10 print, and in exchange, I’d ask for a signed release that would allow me to use the images in my portfolio.
I know that there is a great mix of people in our neighborhood, from different racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Not only do I find this fascinating, but it’s also vital for America’s continued growth and development as an example to the rest of the world. Each family is invited to dress as desired, and if you have children and/or pets, please feel free to include them as well. We should be finished in about 10-15 minutes.
I'm calling the series "Mailbox Portraits."
